Zephyr

As some of you already know, our puppy Zephyr died last Saturday. We had an autopsy done by a 24 hour vet and were told that he had an infection in his lower intestine. He said it spread really quickly and since he was a puppy his body couldn't fight it well. We hadn't yet felt closure as to what really happened and so this week we spoke with our vet. Based off of what we told her, she said that he probably had a seizure from the bacterial infection in his stomach which is actually what killed him. We never noticed anything was wrong with him. We heard him yawn (we woke up at around 7:30am) and a little bit later he was gone.

Today would have been his seven month birthday.

He was our baby.

Our baby is getting bigger...

We got Zephyr September 15th (which also happens to be the day Jere and I met 6 years ago). He is now almost 6 months old now (January 15th is his 6 month birthday) and he is getting so big!

Here he is when we first got him.

Here he is in our christmas photo in December. (Lady has shrunk in size as the elderly sometimes do). Our big puppy weighs in at 35 lbs right now which is half of the large side for what a full grown dog of our breed is supposed to weigh and he is only 5.5 months old!

I have the picture of him as the background for my computer at work and I keep marveling at how he has grown. Even if you don't like dogs, I am sure you have marveled at this with your kids. It's crazy how the last four months have flown by and Zephyr is now a toddler in dog years. LOL. If my calculations are correct he is almost 2 years old in dog years even though he is only 6 months old right now...and boy does he act like a toddler!

Lady

Our newest family member...

Jere and I picked her up from my dad and step-mom's house last night. She is going to live with us now. She seems to be excited about her new living situation so far - she has been sniffing and walking around curious about the house and the yard, while wagging her tail the whole time.
She is the 15.5 year old Cockerspaniel mix I got for my 9th birthday. I asked if we could get a dog on my birthday while my family was traveling in Canada. I remember we were driving in our Hunter Green Suburban and there was fog all around. The day was kinda dreary but in a good way (maybe that is why my favorite days are dreary) I asked if we could get a dog and I just remember my parents saying they would think about it. A little while after we got home from our trip, I reminded my parents of what they said. They had decided it was a go and so dad and I went to the animal shelter to pick out a dog. For some reason I was drawn to a small litter of yellow labs, but they were kinda yipping and excited and my dad was not impressed...He walked over and saw Lady sitting in her kennel by herself and asked "What about this one?". She was sitting there staring up at us kind of shaking and a little wet with huge brown eyes. At first I wasn't sure, but we got her out to say hi. I held her and we asked if she was a boy or girl. The attendant told us he thought she was a boy but then looked and said "Nope it's a girl". For some reason, I was strangely relieved. Maybe being at the age I was, I needed a girl dog not a boy dog? Anyways we took her home and I carried her around for about two weeks. She was three months old when we got her and she is a small dog. I am so glad we brought her home that day, and I am glad my dad guided me to choose her, it was a great choice!
Lady has grown up with my family and was there before my littlest brother was born. When my brother was a baby and after he started to walk, he would lay on her and pull her hair. She would just lay there just acting like "oh he's a baby, it's okay". When a big person would mess with her she would be more defensive...She is very special to us because of how sweet she has been. My siblings and I have always joked that Lady was our babysitter and would stick with us where ever we would go. (kinda like the nanny dog from Peter Pan)
I'm hoping some of her sweet personality will rub off on Zephyr (even though he is such a sweet, cuddly puppy). Right now we're just trying to keep him from getting all over her because he is so excited. Jere and I are excited to have her live with us, but it is strange to think about how we now have TWO dogs! :)

Our Pup, the Zephyr

We call him Zephyr. He's a German Shorthaired Pointer. He's ten and a half weeks old now. He likes Pig Ears, Canned dog food and squeeky toys. He loves to nibble on anything that moves (we'll be working on that). He'll only chase a toy about 20 feet, then his nose takes charge, forcing him to sniff something else out. He had his first "No Accident" day yesterday, not peeing in his kennel while Reagan and I were at work. Our little baby is already growing up, so fast.
If you want to see more of this floppy eared dude, we posted more pictures on our flickr account.

Scratch That Last Post

Tommorow we are moving over to our house. We're not moving everything from storage, just the things we have had at Scott and Lynn's. I haven't posted in a while because I have been discouraged about how sometimes we post something that we plan on - and it doesn't end up happening (like our last post). I kind of feel like we're lying on our blog! So the thing is, WE ARE MOVING TOMMOROW. I just want to make that clear. :)

We've had a lot happen in the past two weeks. Including but not limited to, becoming new puppy owners (we're still working on posting pictures).

We got him, "Zephyr" on September 15th...Thinking back on it I remembered that that is the day Jere and I met six years ago. Funny how things turn out. Zephyr is a german shorthaired pointer. That is what he'll look like when he's older (except way cuter)

Quite a bit has happened with the house too...The bathroom is "finished" to the point that we can move in :) We have both used the toilet in our new house one time. It is nice not peeing in a drain while over there working! We mudded and taped two coats. We primed and painted the bathroom and the shower surround is up.

We're going to finish painting the bedroom that we're going to stay in, right now it has two coats of primer.

So basically we're just jumping in and making ourselves move from the nice house we currently have been priveleged to stay in, to our house in the midst of a remodel. We've done a lot on it but have a lot yet to do!
